Join us Tuesday, July 11th, from 2-3:30 p.m. for our Backyard Pollinator Program This fun and informative program will feature a presentation by UGA Extension Thomas County Agriculture and Natural Resources Agent, Sydni Ingram and will include a plant sale by Full Circle Nursery.

“This program is meant to encourage everyone to get involved in providing habitat and food for bees, butterflies, hummingbirds, and other pollinators,” said Pebble Hill Plantation’s Program Coordinator, Kitty Spivey. “Using native plants is crucial. You want your garden to feature plants that can sustain our native species for food and for places to reproduce.”

Participants will learn which plants serve as host plants for larval butterflies and which plants are best for providing nectar for bees, butterflies, birds, and other pollinating animals. “Using native plants is crucial,” stressed Spivey.

The Pollinator program at Pebble Hill will take place in the Learning Center and the Kitchen Garden with hands-on activities, information sharing, and children’s activities. “It is very important that we educate ourselves on ways we can help increase the populations and improve the habitats of all of our pollinators,” said Spivey. “This program is a fun way to introduce interested people of all ages on small things they can do towards the bigger effort of saving pollinators.”

Cost for the program is $10 for adults (ages 17 & up), $5 for children (ages 3-16), and free for children under age two years. Ticket purchase includes free admission for a self-guided tour of the historic Grounds and Outbuildings of Pebble Hill.
