Things to See & Do
A visit to Pebble Hill Plantation is more than a tour—it is an enriching experience that engages the senses and stays with you long after you leave. Whether your interests lie in history, art, antiques, architecture, or the natural beauty of the outdoors, Pebble Hill offers something meaningful for every visitor.
From the moment you pass through the main gates, a sense of calm begins to take hold. The expansive grounds invite quiet exploration, leisurely walks, and moments of reflection surrounded by sweeping landscapes.
Inside the Main House, exceptional collections and finely preserved antiques offer a window into the lives of the Hanna family. Original furnishings, family portraits, and historic photographs create a sense of warmth and connection, bringing their story to life in an intimate and memorable way.
Beyond the Main House, guests may explore vintage carriages, visit the Pebble Hill horses, and enjoy the peaceful picnic area overlooking a serene pond. Each corner of the estate offers a chance to slow down, take in the surroundings, and experience the timeless beauty of Pebble Hill Plantation.
Through October 31st, visitors are invited to experience a special exhibition in the Elisabeth Ireland Poe Gallery at Pebble Hill Plantation: “Pebble Hill Plantation: A 200-Year Legacy.”
This engaging exhibit traces two centuries of Pebble Hill’s story—from its earliest beginnings in 1825, when Thomas Jefferson Johnson established his home on the property, through the influential eras of Kate Hanna Ireland Harvey and her daughter, Elisabeth “Pansy” Ireland Poe. Through photographs, artifacts, and archival materials, the exhibition brings to life the people, events, and traditions that shaped Pebble Hill into the historic estate and museum it is today.
Presented within the Elisabeth Ireland Poe Gallery, the exhibit offers visitors a rich opportunity to explore Pebble Hill’s enduring legacy and its place in the broader history of Thomasville and the Red Hills region.
