Join wildlife biologist Joe Burnam at Pebble Hill Plantation on Saturday, May 10 at 10:00 a.m. for a unique conservation program featuring the red-cockaded woodpecker (RCW)—one of the Southeast’s rarest birds, recently downlisted from endangered to threatened.

Begin the day at the Pebble Hill Learning Center with a talk on longleaf pine ecology and RCW habitat management in the Red Hills Region. Then head into the field to observe RCW survey and banding techniques, including the use of a Wireless Cavity Peeper Camera to check nesting progress.

Witness up-close the banding process used by biologists to monitor and protect these fascinating birds.
